When I first saw this I thought of Plato's "The Cave" and the allegory of perception versus fact. The story starts with what people believe to be "truth and life" are actually an illusion. Those bound within the darkness of the cave see reflections of shadows and perceive those to be truth versus realizing true life is beyond the cave, outside in the world lit by the sun.

Osiris by ~PetarMali is a matte painting he created to show people walking out of the darkness of the cave into the light. Using brushes for details, he took some stock to create this painted, detailed look of what it could look like for those who have been supposedly secure in their dark, dank cave finally taking a leap of faith and walking out into another life powered by the sun and finally seeing for themselves the world beyond.

2011-064 by *rainris is a wonderfully atmospheric, if slightly eery, photograph. The background smoke has been captured perfectly, in such a way which adds to the general ambiance but isn't over exposed or distracting - which shows great technical skill of the photographer! I love the heavy draping of the garments here, they perfectly compliment the world-weary and wary expression of the model.

I believe this would be worthy of a Daily Deviation because I've seen a great many artists out there drawing 'kimono' that aren't real kimono and I believe this mistake comes from a lack of exposure to real kimono which can be easily rectified with a simple view of the tutorial."
