welcome to the real world
1. if someone invites you back to their place
for coffee, and you only drink tea,
don’t stress:
you probably won’t actually be drinking coffee.
2. when the creepy guy from work asks you out
again and you think about accepting for the first
time because you’re sick of going home alone and
you have never learned how to say no, don’t. learn.
stand in front of the mirror until you love yourself
enough for your skin to fit snug on your body. read
about the hundreds of millions of planets out in the
hundreds of millions of galaxies and feel so crowded
that you’re about to burst all over again.

each angle pointing to a slew of compass-rose regrets.

i hear the second hand’s advance tally my silences like rosary beads,
each angle pointing to a slew of compass-rose regrets.
if only i could pull your name from this unmerciful stampede!
i hear the second hand’s advance tally my silences like rosary beads.

There is a ghost doing handstands on my front lawn,
wrist-deep in fresh soil. Her hands are birds
in flight.
It's late, but no one comes to take her home.
The pale moon offers a silver smile -
the clouds disapprove.
Too tired to dream, she buries her legs in sky.
Tonight she is invincible, untouchable,
this frail girl beneath the stars
this death in light.
-
There is a ghost doing handstands on my front lawn,
falling to her white knees. Her stare is a pane
of glass.
The eyes of the living are often murky but
the eyes of the gone
are windows.

February Triple Feature2014 ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE CONTEST WINNERS
the-haiku-club's 2014 Attitude of Gratitude Contest winners have been announced! As a prize, I owe them all a feature. So what I'm gonna do is dedicate this month's First Weekend Feature to them. (It's almost the weekend, right?)
Tying for first place are somnomollior and timeraider, while jade-pandora claims the third place spot.
somnomollior, or Cat White, won with her Untitled gratitude choka, "a bittersweet memory in a vivid, finely-described setting, with a hopeful vibe amidst the pain":
This was truly a pleasure to read, as is much of Cat's other work. A ten-year veteran of dA, Cat has an extensive

for :icontalentedwritersguild:
TalentedWritersGuild is a literature group committed to the encouragement, collection, and archival of high quality prose and poetry works. To find out more about the group, please click here.
Here at TalentedWritersGuild, we encourage deviants to select only their best pieces of literature for submission. As judges, we look for pieces that simultaneously move us, challenge us, and inspire us as readers; pieces that stimulate us emotionally and intellectually; and the pieces that display true technical skill. When we vote, we consider all these things, and let only the pieces we deem up to snuff through to our gallery.
