My fish has lived for 6 years. I can tell he's been dead for more then 4 months, because half of his body's already decayed.... So that tells me this: For atleast 4 months, I have been feeding my, now dead, fish. Then I decided to look into the tank for once, to find him have decayed, upside down, on the BOTTOM, of the tank.
